CEO and co-founder
Kris is CEO and Co-Founder of 2nd Watch, Inc. In his position, he oversees strategic and technical development of 2nd Watch’s cloud-based products and solutions and is responsible for the growth and sustainability of the company. Prior to co-founding 2nd Watch in 2010, Kris held many top IT positions with companies including Microsoft and Ambassadors Group, Inc. As the CIO for Ambassadors Group, Inc. (EPAX), Kris spearheaded the replacement of the company’s legacy ERP platform and implemented a business-first CRM system as part of a strategic overhaul of Ambassador’s IT infrastructure. As a member of the core executive team he helped drive strategic partnerships and advised on mergers and acquisition. As Microsoft’s Director of Sales, Marketing and Services Infrastructure, Kris managed content and communications tools for the company’s 60,000+ global Sales, Marketing and Services workforce. During his tenure at Microsoft Kris received several awards and accolades including two divisional “Field Productivity” awards and a Circle of Excellence award (top 1% of Microsoft). In addition, Kris owned his own consulting business specializing in system architecture, database design and software development. His clients included Onyx Software, Ascent Partners, National Flood Services and Microsoft Corporation.
EVP, Strategic Business Development and co-founder
Jeff has over 20 years of business management operations, business development, product management, P&L management, sales and marketing management experience. He has been a member of executive teams and boards that have raised $40M in private equity, venture capital and debt financing. In his role as Executive Vice President of Strategic Business Development at 2nd Watch Jeff is responsible for the company’s global strategic initiatives including strategic partnerships, business development, M&A, and opening new markets. Prior to co-founding 2nd Watch Jeff was running a $200M P&L for Ambassador Group (ticker: EPAX) a marketing company, where he was able to provide executive leadership and results that increased revenue and margin through a treacherous economic environment. He was also responsible for the customer experience and operations of global delivery. Prior to joining Ambassadors Group Jeff lived and worked in Taiwan as a consultant. Prior to being an ex-patriot Jeff held a number of roles in a regional finance company. Jeff holds a Master of International Management degree and a B.A. from Whitworth University. He enjoys time with his family outdoors as often has he can find time to fly fish, golf, ski and run.
CFO and co-founder
As CFO and Co-Founder of 2nd Watch, Brett spearheads fundraising and corporate strategy and development while supporting the company’s accelerating growth. Brett is an experienced executive with 18 years in public and private, high-growth technology companies. Brett has developed a strong aptitude for corporate strategy and development along with a track record for building and nurturing startup companies. Most recently he was a Co-founder and COO/CFO of Demand Energy, a pioneer and leader in distributed energy storage systems. Demand Energy is the first company in the world to deploy and manage a utility-grade, end-to-end solution for commercial end-use customers that stores and generates electricity at megawatt scale. It’s systems in NYC and Tianjin, China are controlled and managed by its software platform that resides in the cloud using AWS, an industry first for distributed generation infrastructure. Brett led the company from inception through product design and commercialization to early market adoption with customers while raising $20M of equity, debt, and grant funding. Prior to Demand Energy, Brett was VP of Finance at World Wide Packets (WWP) where he was responsible for raising more than $60M in equity and debt financing. He was a key contributor to the company’s $500M AT&T account win and M&A effort with Goldman Sachs. Brett understands the organizational requirements to support rapid scale as his team successfully supported revenue growth from $13M to $35M in the 12 months leading up to the sale of the company for over $300M to Ciena in March 2008. Prior to WWP, he served at Amazon.com, Teledesic, and theglobe.com. Brett received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Seattle Pacific University and began his career as a CPA with Deloitte.
As the SVP of Engineering at 2nd Watch, Inc., Jason is responsible for service delivery and technology solutions architecture. Additionally, he manages the Cloud Architect and Cloud Engineering teams. Through solutions development and engineering Jason helps position 2nd Watch solutions and services offerings to align with the company’s corporate direction and maximize the value proposition to our customers. Jason’s unique background combining both technical leadership and systems engineering expertise comes from holding several high-level IT and Infrastructure Management positions with enterprise companies such as Continental Airlines and Microsoft Corporation. As the former IT Director Jason’s responsibilities centered around systems engineering and architecture. While at People To People, Jason designed and implemented the Data Management Plan to drive down the technology cost-to-acquire and cost-to-operate for server and storage technologies by adopting a Capacity Planning demand model. In addition, he transformed server and storage solutions into a service delivery model and built the plan to transition these services into the cloud. Jason is a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP).
Joel is the EVP of Software at 2nd Watch where he oversees all product development. Prior to 2nd Watch, he was the Chief Technology Officer at Lightspeed Research, a global market research company and subsidiary of WPP/Kantar. Joel has also been the CTO of GMI, which was acquired by Lightspeed in 2011. Additionally, he served as general manager for AWS Simple Queue Service (2007-2009) as well as held several technical leadership positions at Microsoft and Attachmate. In between large company roles, Joel has founded software companies such as TransLink Software that was acquired by Active Software / webMethods in 2000. Joel studied computer science at Shippensburg University and holds patents for network bandwidth estimation, profiling devices on wireless networks, and mainframe integration technology. Joel also has a patent pending for Social Networking Market Research.
Jesse L. Nelson
CPA , Vice President, Finance
As Vice President, Finance at 2nd Watch, Inc., Jesse is responsible for the statutory accounting, financial planning and reporting requirements of the organization. This includes establishing and overseeing the company’s accounting protocols, ensuring that the company’s financial portfolio and its employees are following standards, legal accounting rules, and acting as a leader within the company’s executive framework. In addition, Jesse is responsible for establishing and managing the business operations that optimize the financial return of the cloud platforms used by 2nd Watch. Prior to joining 2nd Watch, Jesse has been involved as a co-founder in successful startup companies. In addition, he has held Senior Management positions with public companies including roles as the Director of Finance and Strategic Planning, General Manager for International Sales & Operations and public accounting experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Jesse holds a BS in Finance and Accounting, as a graduate of Concordia University, Portland, Oregon and is certified as a CPA in the State of Oregon.
EVP, Sales & Marketing
Matt has over 25 years of global high technology market experience and is equally comfortable with driving growth organizations, managing turnarounds or participating on corporate boards. He has led or been a member of executive teams and boards that have raised over $125M of private equity, venture capital and debt financing, and has managed or participated in 12 corporate transactions. In his role as Executive Vice President for Sales & Marketing at 2nd Watch Matt is responsible for global marketing, sales and customer support operations. Prior to joining 2nd Watch Matt spent three years as CEO of IT-Lifeline, a cloud based IT disaster recovery company where his team grew the company from a regional supplier to a national presence in the financial services marketplace via a strategic relationship with Jack Henry & Associates. Matt also spent three years as CEO at SprayCool, a technology leader in implementing liquid cooling systems for electronics. Matt transitioned out of his role at SprayCool after the sale of the company to Parker Aerospace. Prior to SprayCool Matt was a key member of the executive team that tripled revenues and sold Itronix, a global leader in mission critical mobile computing, to General Dynamics. During the course of his nine years at Itronix Matt held various executive positions, including Sr. VP for Global Sales and Marketing, Sr. VP for Product Line Management, VP of European Operations and VP of Marketing. Matt currently sits on the boards of IT-Lifeline, Blue Box Group (a hosted private cloud company) and Pearson Packaging (a $50M packaging machinery and was a board member at Spraycool and Pacinian (a haptics technology company) through the sale of Pacinian to Synaptics. Matt holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a Master of Business Administration with Distinction from Hofstra University.
VP, Solutions Architecture
Karl has spent over 20 years working as a technology professional, successfully bridging the gap between understand business priorities and translating those into technical solutions. Prior to joining 2nd Watch as VP of Solutions Architecture, Karl held many top IT positions at Microsoft and co-Founded 2 startups: AXC Interactive and IFX. At Microsoft Karl managed development teams in Sales and Marketing IT groups, helped deploy ITIL based procedures in MSN Operations, founded the US Data Management Organization and worked as a Senior Level PM in the Bing Availability and Reliability team. As an entrepreneur he co-Founded two professional services firms supporting Enterprise customers in Ecommerce, Business Intelligence and custom software development. AT AXC Karl was VP of Professional Services where he hired, managed and developed a group of 50 employees including Project Management, Development, Test and Creative Services professionals. During his time at Microsoft Karl received several awards including "Key Contributor" to MSN's Information Security program, where he also wrote the ITIL based Change Management Standard. Karl was also instrumental in the sale of AXC interactive to ShopNow.Com in 2000.
